Patriots kicking situation

Clark Judge from CBS Sports Line has his opinion on the Patriots kicking situation.

OK, here’s the question: If you have one kick you absolutely, positively must make, whom do you choose? I’m with you. Adam Vinatieri may not be the most accurate place-kicker in the game, but he’s the most reliable. There is nobody I trust more to make a game-winning field goal. So why did New England let him walk? I wish I knew. All I know is I don’t want to be the next guy who has to drive a 46-yard kick in a blizzard to keep my club alive in the playoffs. Good night and good luck, Martin Gramatica, wherever you are.

    Adam who?

He’s gone….get over it……if you don’t like it, go cheer for the colts!

  2. Michael says:

Agreed, I am tired of hearing about us losing Vinatieri. He was and probably still is a great kicker, but I believe we still will be a championship team even if  Gramatica ends up as our starting kicking. I think these people forget we still have Brady on are team.

  3. poofer says:

Gramatica won’t be our starting kicker anyway.

People are overblowing the Vinatieri loss. He’s a kicker. We’ll survive

  4. Michael says:

Yep, I remember reading a local magazine and the writer said that the pats won’t even make the playoffs because of losing Vinatieri. It’s not like we lost a star QB or RB.

  5. Vinatieri will turn 34 in December and the Patriots have a policy about paying veterans a certain amount when they reach a certain time in their career. The media and the public are making way too big of a deal about Adam leaving. He is a New England legend and booted us to 3 Superbowl titles but everyone gets older and their skills decline. Maybe the coaching staff noticed a decline in his range and power (Adam has never been the best kickoff guy).

Maybe Adam had no intentions of staying… one ever considers this. A player with his stature obviously commands a lot of money as a free agent. With 3 rings already, maybe he felt it was time to get paid, other athletes do it all the time.

As far as Gramatica, I doubt he’ll make the team. His range/accuracy has declined since 2003. Add the abdomen injury hea hd in 2004 and that he was out of football last year and you get the idea. Stephen Gostkowski was drafted for a reason and might have been the answer the whole time, that’s why they used such an early draft pick.

Stephen Gostkowski may well prove to be one of the best kickers to ever play the game. I’ll even go as far to say that, if he stays healthy, that before his career is ended, he will set the record for the longest field goal in NFL history.
The ball goes off his foot like a Tiger Woods tee shot. All players are getting bigger and stronger, don’t you think it’s about time it happened to a kicker?

  7. Michael says:

I like your point of view. I heard many good things about Gostkawski so he may well turn into a excellent kicker. It is due to have a big an stronger kicker, every other position has that type of player now.
